Connecting the desktop trader
Live trading routes through a small desktop client that bridges your exchange account to Nocterm. The terminal in your browser never holds your exchange credentials directly - it hands live orders to the desktop client, which forwards them to the exchange and reports fills back. This page covers connecting the client and reading its connection status.

Section titled “What the desktop client does”The desktop client is the link between Nocterm and your exchange. When it is running and connected, live orders you place in the browser are routed through it to the exchange. When it is not, there is nothing to carry a live order - so the terminal falls back to the paper simulator instead (more on that below).
Installing and connecting
Section titled “Installing and connecting”The exact download, install, and pairing steps are specific to your deployment, so follow the instructions provided with your Nocterm instance. The general shape is the same everywhere:
- Download the desktop client for your operating system from the link in your deployment’s setup page (placeholder - your instance will tell you where).
- Install and launch it.
- Sign in / pair it with your Nocterm account using the code or credentials your deployment provides.
- Connect it to your exchange account, following the on-screen prompts.
Once it is running and paired, the terminal picks it up automatically - there is nothing extra to switch on in the browser.

Section titled “Reading the connection status”The trade panel shows a small status dot for the desktop client:
| Dot | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | Online - the client is connected and live orders will reach the exchange |
| Gray | Offline - no client is connected; live orders fall back to the paper sim |
When the client is offline
Section titled “When the client is offline”If the desktop client disconnects - closed app, lost network, machine asleep - Nocterm does not error out your live orders. It quietly falls back to the paper sim so you can keep working without an interruption. Re-launch and re-connect the client to resume real fills; the dot turns green again once the link is restored.
